Оценка точности определений продукции морских моллюсков по одноразовым выборкам IBSS Repository

На примере определений продукционных характеристик двустворчатого моллюска Chamelea gallina из четырех поселений на шельфе Черного моря рассмотрена точность оценки годовой продукции различными вариантами метода одноразовых выборок. Наиболее достоверными и с наименьшей относительной погрешностью являются определения продукции при выделении возрастных классов моллюска и измерении длины, которую имела каждая особь во время отбора проб и за год до этого, на основе анализа ежегодных колец роста на поверхности раковины.

Adult somatic progenitor cells and hematopoiesis in oysters ArchiMer

Long-lived animals show a non-observable age-related decline in immune defense, which is provided by blood cells that derive from self-renewing stem cells. The oldest living animals are bivalves. Yet, the origin of hemocytes, the cells involved in innate immunity, is unknown in bivalves and current knowledge about mollusk adult somatic stem cells is scarce. Here we identify a population of adult somatic precursor cells and show their differentiation into hemocytes. A cDNA sequence that encodes a 61-amino acid polypeptide precursor with homologies to proline-rich antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) was identified in the oyster Crassostrea gigas. After release of a hydrophobic signal peptide. the resulting 37-amino acid peptide, Cg-Prp, is composed of an acidic region and a cationic proline-rich region. Evidence of a bactericidal permeability increasing protein in an invertebrate, the Crassostrea gigas Cg-BPI ArchiMer

A cDNA sequence with homologies to members of the LPS-binding protein and bactericidal/permeability-increasing protein (BPI) family was identified in the oyster Crassostrea gigas. The recombinant protein was found to bind LIPS, to display bactericidal activity against Escherichia coli, and to increase the permeability of the bacterial cytoplasmic membrane. This indicated that it is a BPI rather than an LPS-binding protein. Intracellular microcolonies of bacteria (IMC), in some cases developing large extracellular cysts (bacterial aggregates), infecting primarily gill and digestive gland, have been historically reported in a wide diversity of economically important mollusk species worldwide, sometimes associated with severe lesions and mass mortality events. Antimicrobial histones and DNA traps in invertebrate immunity: evidences in Crassostrea gigas. ArchiMer

Although antimicrobial histones have been isolated from multiple metazoan species, their role in host defense has long remained unanswered. We found here that the hemocytes of the oyster Crassostrea gigas release antimicrobial H1-like and H5-like histones in response to tissue damage and infection. These antimicrobial histones were shown to be associated with extracellular DNA networks released by hemocytes, the circulating immune cells of invertebrates, in response to immune challenge.
